Free Construction Safety & Health (COSH) Training for Special (Indigent/Displaced) Workers

The Occupational Safety and Health Center thru its Regional Extension Unit in Caraga Region (REU Caraga), conducted a Free Construction Safety and Health (COSH) Training for Special(Indigent/Displaced) Workers on January 23-27, 2017 held at Vefacio Bed and Breakfast and Function Hall, Butuan City.


From the fifty-six (56) successful graduates (female=18, male=38), 20 participants were displaced OFWs endorsed by DOLE Caraga Region and 36 participants were Indigent Workers supported by Indigent Certificate from the barangay. The free COSH training aims to train future Safety Officers in implementing workplace safety and health program under the Occupational Safety and Health Standards and DOLE D.O. 13 otherwise known as the Guidelines of OSH in the Construction Industry. This is part of the mandate of OSHC from the directive of OSHC executive director, Engr. Noel C. Binag, to protect workers through the preventive approach of reducing/eliminating occupational accidents and illnesses and to promote workers' welfare through the effective implementation of OSH programs that will enhance productivity and subsequently contribute to national economic development efforts.


The participants of the said training were very thankful during the closing ceremony because they can now apply as Safety Officers to Construction Companies local and abroad which has a competitive salary and soon improve their way of living. The said training was also graced by DOLE Caraga Agusan del Norte Provincial Head, Mr. Hermie Daytoc during the opening ceremony.
